Important Notice - FTP Lock

Dear Customer

We hope that you have been keeping well.

Warning SignThis email is an important notice to notify you of an upcoming security update that will affect the way you access your FTP (File Transfer Protocol) login, in order to transfer files to and from your website space hosted with us. The following information is designed to inform you of the changes and how to work with them. You will notice the change to your systems as of the 15th February 2010.

Security of your website is important to us and over the past year we have seen a sharp increase in gumblar attacks. For more information on what this is, please click here. The gist of it is that hackers steal your FTP login details and then place malicious code embedded into your website files. Ultimate Web Hosting has therefore come up with a solution which is to lock your FTP account whilst it is not in use, which will make it far more difficult for hackers to take advantage of your website through this route.

In order to unlock your FTP account you will simply need to login to your control panel and select the option to Unlock your FTP, where you will presented with a view similar to that below. You will be able to select for how long you want to unlock your FTP login for and after this time has lapsed, it will automatically re-lock itself. There is not a limit on how often you can lock and unlock your login. You will also have the option to permanently unlock your FTP address to your IP address, so you do not need to worry about unlocking it each time you want to access it.
